Dialup Connections
If you connect to the internet through a phone and modem you can make a few changes to the dialup connection that can improve the time it takes to connect. Most ISPs do not require that you enable "Log on to Network" so if you disable this option you will increase the time it takes to establish a connection by up to a minute depending on which version of Windows you have and what updates you have applied. Windows 95 and Windows 98 by default enable this option but Windows 98SE seems to have this disabled. Windows Me has moved the option so far away most people will not find it. So find out what you have and if you need to change this setting open My Computer and then Dialup Networking and right click on your connection and click properties. Now click Server types and then you will see this option. To remove the check just click on it.
You can also disable Netbeui and IPX/SPX compatible. The next time you connect there should be a big difference, if you experience trouble just undo what we did.
